To celebrate its 20th anniversary, ANTI Festival is showcasing the most memorable photos of the festival from over the years in a two-part exhibition that takes place in the Kantti, in the lobby of the Kuopio Museum and online. The exhibition is free of charge.

Photographs by Pekka Mäkinen and videos by Kim Saarinen not only tell the story of the festival but also provide a view into live art and public art from North Savo, Finland and other countries and show how these have developed over the years. Only a fraction of the significantly expansive documentation is displayed at the exhibition.

The exhibition celebrates the 20-year success story of ANTI Festival and its role in developing live art as well as urban culture in Kuopio. It presents a group of artists representing diverse backgrounds and various fields who have worked at the festival in the past 20 years.  It also provides an interesting snapshot of Kuopio’s history; how the urban landscape has changed and the local people become more diverse.

Ever since its beginning, ANTI Festival has invested in producing high-quality photograph and video documentation. Documenting art presented in a public space, occurring in the moment and based on engaging audiences is a challenging task requiring sensitivity related to performers, places of performance, audiences and participants. As a result, the festival has been collaborating with the same, highly experienced documentation professionals for a long time. Photographer Pekka Mäkinen has been documenting the festival through his photographs throughout its history, and videographer–director Kim Saarinen has been documenting the festival on video since 2011.
